Product Description

Polaris Networks provides a suite of LTE Network Equipment Emulators that allows end-to-end simulation of an LTE network in the lab. Comprising the eNodeB, MME, S-GW, PDN-GW, HSS, PCRF, ePDG and ANDSF Emulators, the LTE Emulators enable testing in a variety of network topologies. This allows the user to utilize lab equipment effectively and reduce capital expenditure and ongoing support costs associated with the test lab.

LTE Base Station and Core Network Equipment Manufacturers can use the LTE Emulators for testing the scalability and performance of the LTE nodes. The Emulators provide a lower-cost solution and greater control as compared to a real node. LTE Network Operators can use the Emulators in a pre-deployment test bed to validate the Key Performance Indicators provided by equipment vendors.



  • Polaris LTE Emulators emulate a number of 3GPP LTE network elements
    including the eNB, MME, SGW, PDN-GW, HSS, PCRF, ePDG & ANDSF.
    The Emulators are implemented according to 3GPP Release 8 , Release 9
    and Release 10 standards and support all standard networks interfaces &
    communication protocols.
  • The Emulators are implemented as state machines and can replace real
    LTE nodes for the purpose of testing peer LTE nodes.
  • The Emulators include co-located nodes, which simplifies the network
    topology for testing. The eNodeB Emulator can simulate hundreds of
    thousands of UEs. All EPC nodes - MME, SGW, PGW, HSS, PCRF, ePDG
    & ANDSF - can be emulated on a single system.
  • Multiple nodes of the same type can be simulated using a single
    Emulator system, which is extremely useful in testing features like
    S1-Flex (eNodeB and MME Pools), Handovers with MME and SGW
    relocation and Roaming and for doing scalability testing.
  • Simulation of UE-initiated signaling procedures, such as Attach, Detach,
    Service Request, Tracking Area Update, Bearer Resource Allocation and
    Modification, and Multiple PDN Connection.
  • Simulation of Network initiated signaling procedures, such as UE Detach,
    Paging, S1-based and X2-based Handover, Dedicated Bearer Setup,
    Modification and Release and Trace.
  • The Emulators can be used for testing Emergency Sessions and
    Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS).
  • User-plane traffic generation, both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic.
    The Emulators can be used to simulate failure scenarios.
    The LTE Emulators provide a TCL scripting interface to configure the
    Emulators and obtain simulation results. This automation API allows
    the Emulators to be used in regression tests and long-duration stability
  • The LTE Emulators Console provides a Windows or Linux GUI to
    use a cluster of Emulators from a single console. It provides an easy-to-use
    method to configure and control the functions of the Emulators and to
    display device and connection status and performance statistics.
